Ireland – The green Island 10/2026
Foreword
Ireland—an island that evokes images of rain, rugged coastlines, green hills, and stories. And that's exactly where our little trip is headed: a journey across the island with my parents—from Dublin to the wild west coast and finally down to the south. It will be a different kind of trip than I'm used to, but I'm looking forward to it.
We already know that fall will be with us. So rain jackets and sturdy shoes are just as much a part of our luggage as our anticipation of vast landscapes, cozy pubs, and perhaps the occasional moment when the sun peeks out from behind the clouds.
Actually, diving was supposed to be part of the trip for me, too. But Ireland has its own season, and so this plan has unfortunately fallen by the wayside as the season comes to an end. That leaves all the more time to explore the island both above and below the water: national parks, ancient counties, castles and ruins, small roads winding through the countryside, and, time and again, views out onto the endless expanse of the Atlantic. And maybe—just maybe—I'll spot some marine life here and there.
The west coast is set to be a highlight, especially the Cliffs of Moher. Will the Irish sun do us a favor there, and might we even get to experience a sunset over the cliffs? I suppose the heavens will decide. But perhaps it's precisely this unpredictability that makes this trip so appealing.
A short road trip with my parents, without rushing too much—but with plenty of curiosity, eyes wide open, and hopefully many shared moments that we'll remember for a long time to come.
Off to Ireland!
